Edward M. Hayes papers, 1954-1980.

Collection contains numerous black and white photographs of the first Douglas DC-8 airliners being built at Douglas' Long Beach, California plant in 1957-1958, including the first DC-8 owned by United Airlines. Collection also contains materials pertaining to the United States Supersonic Transport Program and its competitor the Concorde, which consist of Hayes' subject files (which contain correspondence, clippings, photographs, blueprints, press releases, and printed materials), manuscripts of papers written by Hayes, miscellaneous reports (some written by or contributed to by Hayes), miscellaneous printed materials (mostly by aircraft companies), and a few 1965 issues of "Lockheed Horizons".

Edward M. Hayes was an electrical engineer for United Airlines during the second half of the twentieth century, where he worked on the Douglas DC-8 airliner during the late 1950s.
